Richard L. “Poodle” Darnell, 64 years of age, of Monmouth, Illinois
passed away peacefully at his home on Friday March 11 , 2022. ” Poodle
” Darnell was born on December 14, 1957 in Monmouth and is the son of
George and Eva (Stormer) Darnell. He was raised in Monmouth where
attended local schools and was a graduate of Monmouth High School in
1975. He then attended technical school at Quincy Tech in Quincy,
Illinois. Rick enjoyed being with friends and family. Poodle enjoyed
riding his Harley Davidson motorcycle on poker runs and going across the
country. Rick has had a love of semi driving and has driven them since
he was in his early 20’s. Poodle owned and operated his own business,
Rick Darnell Trucking, and has worked for several trucking companies
over the years. He was a member of the Teamster’s Local Union 627 in
Peoria, Illinois for several years, retiring from them this last year.
He also has been employed with Jeff Link Trucking in Roseville,
Illinois. He is survived by his brothers, Ronald Darnell and Linda of
Kirkwood, Illinois, Donald Darnell and Sharon Ann of Kirkwood, Illinois
and his sisters, Sharon J. Jern of Oquawka, Illinois, Mary Sue Wells of
Monmouth, Illinois and Carol E. Buster of North Ft. Myers, Florida. He
also has left behind many nieces and nephews, who will miss the big,
burley Uncle.
Cremation is being accorded for Richard and a celebration of his life
will be held Saturday, March 19th from 11:00 to 2:00 pm at the Veteran’s
of Foreign Wars Post 2301 on North “G” Street in Monmouth, Illinois. All
family and friends are invited. donations may be given to St. Jude
Children’s Research Hospital or the Honor Flight or Harley Davidson for
