The USMNT lost 2-0 to Costa Rica, but secured their spot in the 2022 FIFA World Cup thanks to the goal difference – they only needed to avoid a 6-goal loss. The USMNT has joined the 29 teams already qualified 2022 World Cup.
In North America, Canada and Mexico are the other teams who have qualified. Costa Rica finished in 4th place and will play in the playoffs against New Zealand, who took first place in the Oceania qualifiers. The duel will take place in a single leg game in June, in Qatar.
There are only three spots left for the World Cup and they will be decided in the outcome of one-on-one games in the month of June in Qatar.
