US 34 Between Monmouth and Burlington Deemed One of the Most Dangerous Stretches of Roadways

Share

US 34 between Monmouth, Illinois and the Iowa State Line is one of the most dangerous sections of roadway we patrol in District 14. While this section of 34 is only 27 miles long, it accounts for numerous crashes each year. IDOT crash statistics show that from 2004 to 2014 there were 676 crashes in just these 27 miles. 152 of the crashes were determined to be a fatality or personal injury crash. Those 152 crashes accounted for 258 people killed or injured over the ten-year period. That is 9.5 people killed or injured for every mile of this roadway.

Please use extra caution when traveling on this road. Slow down and don’t be in such a hurry. There are sections of the road that are expanded into 4-lanes that will allow you to pass slower traffic in a safe manner.

Remember to buckle up and arrive alive.
