The State Department of Revenue has released the 2021 year-end retail numbers. Knox County Area Partnership President Ken Springer reports both Galesburg and Monmouth showed very strong retail growth:

“Very pleased to report that both Galesburg and Monmouth showed really strong overall retail growth in 2021 when compared to 2020. Galesburg posted at 22.6 % increase and Monmouth showed a 32% increase from 2021 over the 2020 year, which is good news for both communities.”

While part of the gains are explained by inflation being up, Springer says there is organic growth locally as only seven percent is accounted by inflation.
