Arthur Clayton “Sonny” Atwood, Jr., 55 of Abingdon passed away Friday morning, April 8, 2022 at his home.

  He was born October 19, 1966 in Decatur, the son of Arthur Clayton Atwood III and Nancy Kay (Yates) Atwood.  He married Deonna Cox on November 20, 1996 and they later divorced.

  Sonny is survived by his companion and love of his life, Monica Landon; one daughter, Kaylin Atwood of Decatur; one granddaughter, Brylee Jean Lindsey; two sisters, L. Renee Atwood of Abingdon and Jeri Lynn (and Kevin) Galloway of Henderson; and nieces and nephews, David Lawrence (Megan) Nelson, Lisa Marie Schuman, Brandi Osborne, Dustin (Victoria) Atwood, and Brittany (Justin) Chaney and their families, and aunts, uncles and cousins and their families.

  He was preceded in death by his parents and one niece.

  Sonny grew up and attended schools in Decatur.  He has lived in Abingdon the past 13 years and owned and operated Atwood Construction in Abingdon.  He enjoyed fishing, camping and doing anything in the great outdoors.  He was also a passionate artist.

  Cremation will be accorded.  Graveside ash committal service will be held at 11 a.m. Friday, April 15, 2022 at the Henderson Cemetery, County Road 460 East, Henderson, Illinois.  Following the service, a time to celebrate Sonny’s life in food and fellowship will be held at the Henderson Town Hall/Fire Station.  Hinchliff-Pearson-West Funeral Directors and Cremation Services Abingdon Chapel is assisting the family with his arrangements.  Online condolences may be made at www.h-p-w.com.
