We are seeking your assistance to honor one of the local area fallen heroes, Navy Fireman First Class George F. Price, WWII KIA onboard the USS OKLAHOMA (BB-37) during the attack on Pearl Harbor.  You may have received similar PSA requests from our organization in the past.  We appreciate your continued support as we honor those who have fallen in service to our country.  Your support is greatly appreciated.

Volunteers from Dallas City Illinois and surrounding communities asked to support “The Flagman’s Mission Continues” setting up US Flags for the funeral of Navy Fireman First Class George F. Price, WWII KIA onboard the USS OKLAHOMA (BB-37) during the attack on Pearl Harbor

Help is needed to set up 2,000 plus US 3×5 foot flags on Tuesday May 3rd for the funeral of Navy Fireman First Class George F. Price, WWII KIA during the attack on Pearl Harbor onboard the USS OKLAHOMA (BB-37).  Petty Officer Price was originally from Meredosia, Illinois.  After the event concludes, help is needed on Thursday May 5th to take the flags down and reload them into the van.

Flags will be set up on Tuesday May 3rd.  Meet at 4:00 PM at the Banks & Beals Funeral Home at 579 East 3rd Street in Dallas City.  Jeff Hastings, President of “The Flagman’s Mission Continues”, will provide instruction on how to use the post drivers and how to unfurl the flags for display.  Please bring work gloves and wear comfortable walking shoes!  Anyone able to walk and carry 10 pounds can help.  Rain or shine.  Pickup trucks are most welcome and are very useful in taking the flags from the van at the funeral home to the setup locations.  We prefer volunteers 12 years and older.

Banks & Beals Funeral Home has been entrusted with the arrangements for repatriation and the burial service.  Funeral Services will be held at 1:00 PM on Wednesday May 4th at the Banks & Beals Funeral Home in Dallas City with George’s niece, Minister Joyce Martin, officiating.  Burial with full military honors will follow in Harris Cemetery near Dallas City.  After the funeral service concludes, the community is encouraged to line the escort route from the funeral home to the cemetery.  Rolling Thunder will provide escort from the funeral home to the cemetery with the assistance from other veteran motorcycle organizations.   The obituary is located at this URL:  https://www.banksandbeals.com/obituary/navy-fireman-1st-class-george-price

Flags will be taken down on Thursday May 5th.  Meet at 4:00 PM at the Banks & Beals Funeral Home.  Jeff will provide instructions on how to prepare the flags to put back in the van.  Pickup trucks are again most welcome.  Please bring work gloves!

Normally setup and take down can each be completed in about 2 hours or thereabouts.  A very worthwhile and enjoyable use of your volunteer time!  Bring your cameras – the flags provide a lot of photo opportunities that can be shared with the family and others in the community!  Show your support for the Price family and the Dallas City and nearby communities!
