Hands Around the Courthouse Supporting Child Abuse Prevention

Share

April is National Child Abuse Prevention Month and the Blue Ribbon Task Force is back to hosting its annual Hands Around the Courthouse (HATCH) event at 2:00 p.m. Thursday, April 21st at the Knox County Courthouse, 200 S. Cherry St., Galesburg.

The annual HATCH Event provides an opportunity for awareness of Child Abuse Prevention Month while reminding the community how we can help protect the well-being of all children. The Blue Ribbon Task Force invites ALL community members to attend Hands Around the Courthouse to hear from Peter Schwartzman, Mayor City of Galesburg and Blue Ribbon Task Force members.

After the brief program, participants will be asked to hold a blue ribbon and form a circle around the courthouse for a moment of silence acknowledging local victims of child abuse and neglect. The entire ceremony is open to the public and lasts about 30 minutes.

During the past week, the Blue Ribbon Task Force has displayed blue pinwheels on the Knox County Courthouse lawn and blue ribbons were tied to the fences at A-Town High School and Hedding Grade School, representing children who have been abused.
