Jack L. Hasten, age 75, of Monmouth, Illinois passed away at 2:47 am on
Friday April 1, 2022 at OSF St. Mary Medical Center in Galesburg,
Illinois. Jack was born March 3, 1947 in LaHarpe, Illinois and is the
son of Lloyd and Jessie Sly Hasten. He attended Harding School, Central
Jr. High, and Monmouth High School. He graduated with the class of 1965.
While he was in High School Jack worked for Harold Thompson at Thompson
Motor Sales in Monmouth. After high school Jack joined the United States
Marine Corp where he was promoted to the rank of Sargent before his
separation from service. Jack served two tours of duty in Viet Nam and
in Okinawa. Jack married Roberta M. Davidson on May 1, 1966 in Galesburg
and she is currently surviving. After returning from service, Jack
worked for Harold Young at Young’s Boat Sales of rural Monmouth. He then
worked in maintenance at Wells Pet Food in Monmouth for a time, then
began maintenance work at Glastex of Monmouth, then for Bill Felt
Industries, and later in maintenance for Mach 1 Boats and lastly
Envision Boats. Jack is a member of both the Marion B. Fletcher Post 136
American Legion and the J.W.Clendenin Post 2301 Veteran’s of Foreign
Wars and has been active with the Honor Guard for numerous years. Jack
loved to own and work on his 1930 Chevrolet four door sedan and loved
antique cars. He loved to go fishing and enjoyed going to his
granddaughters sporting events. Jack is survived by his wife, Roberta of
Monmouth, her son Michael R. Hasten and Heather of Alexis, IL, and
daughter Michelle M. Nichols of Monmouth, Illinois. There are five
grandchildren, Kara, Jack, Elisa, Cheyenne, and Leah, and two great
grandchildren Marlea, and Nova. Jack’s sisters survive, Nancy Oaks and
Buddy and Maryanne Skees both of Monmouth, IL and two brothers Raymond
Hasten and Shirley of Kirkwood, IL and Jerry Hasten and Peggy of
Monmouth, Illinois. Several nieces and nephews also are surviving. Jack
is preceded in his death by his parents, one sister, Ruth, and his
stillborn infant brother.

A celebration of Jack’s life is planned on Friday evening April 8, 2022
from 6:00pm to 8:30pm at the Marion B. Fletcher Post 136. A Military
service, salute, and taps is also planned at Monmouth Cemetery on
Saturday April 9, 2022 at 10:30 am for the intement of his ashes. A
memorial fund is being established for the J. W. Clendenin Post 2301
Veteran’s of Foreign Wars Post.
