Juanita H. Third, 91 of Abingdon, passed away at 6 a.m. Thursday, April 7, 2022, at her home. 

  She was born July 16, 1930 in Dalton, Minnesota, the daughter of Victor and Orpha (Synstelien) Spitsberg.  She married Joseph M. Third in May of 1949 in San Pedro, California.

  Juanita is survived by her children, Gail M. Cameron of Abingdon and Michael J. Third of Raymond, Maine; 6 grandchildren, 25 great-grandchildren and 3 great-great-grandchildren; one sister, Caryl Nottingham of Duck, West Virginia; and nieces, nephews and their families

  She was preceded in death by her parents, one daughter, Vicki Howells, a very special daughter-in-law, Susan Third, and one brother, Vernon Spitsberg.

  She grew up in Minnesota and later moved to California in 1948, where she lived in the San Pedro area.  She worked as a bookkeeper for 25 years, retiring in 1992.  She moved to Abingdon in 2003.  She attended the Abingdon United Methodist Church.  She was a member of the Grandmother’s Club and the Quinn’s Hens lunchtime group.  She enjoyed doing crafts, working crossword puzzles, and watching Wheel of Fortune and Jeopardy.  She was an avid LA Dodgers fan.  Her greatest joy was spending time with family and following her grandchildren and great-grandchildren to watch their activities.  She also enjoyed sitting at her back door and watching the young people play baseball and softball in the park.

  Funeral service will be held at 10 a.m. Monday, April 11, 2022 at the Hinchliff-Pearson-West Funeral Directors and Cremation Services Abingdon Chapel.  Rev. Jeremiah Barker will officiate.  Burial will be in the Abingdon Cemetery.  Visitation will be held from 4 p.m. to 6 p.m. Sunday at the chapel.   Memorials may be made to the Abingdon First Responders, Abingdon Banty League or to the Multiple Sclerosis Society.  Online condolences may be made at www.h-p-w.com
