Lawmakers vote to require schools to offer vegetarian options for students.

Illinois lawmakers are voting to require public schools to offer vegetarian-friendly foods at lunch.
If a student requests a plant-based food option, districts will have to make that available under the bill. Supporters says it’s a healthy alternative for kids, but Senator Jil Tracy of Quincy says this is another unfunded mandate for schools…

“Local control and allowing a school district to function to serve the the constituency that their students require is a much more reasoned way to go about this”

It’s now up to the governor to sign this bill into law.
