Richard L. McKay
Richard L. McKay, 73, of Monmouth, Il passed away at 5:08 am, Thursday, April 28, 2022 at the ProMedica Rehab Center, Galesburg, IL.
Richard was born March 18, 1949 in Rock Island, IL the son of Delmar and Betty (Carlson) McKay. He was raised and educated in Monmouth, graduating from Warren High School.
Richard served with the United States Air Force from 1968 until 1973 as a medic in Vietnam earning the rank of Sergeant. Upon his return home, Richard also served with the Illinois Army National Guard until his 50’s.
Richard married Roberta Bachelder. He later married Beverly Ross.
Richard farmed on the family farm just north of Monmouth while also working at Wells Pet Food most of his adult life. He was also an EMT.
He was a proud member of the Monmouth American Legion and the Monmouth VFW.
Survivors include his son, Christian (Paola) McKay-Tinder of Wilmington, NC; his daughter, Danielle Ross of Monmouth, IL; his grandson, Jacob McKay-Tinder; 2 brothers, Donald McKay of Monmouth and Gary (Virginia) McKay of Utah; several nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his parents.
Funeral services with military honors will be 10:00 am Wednesday, May 4, 2022 at McGuire & Davies Funeral Home and Crematory, Monmouth, IL, with private family interment to take place at the Rock Island National Cemetery. Visitation will be from 5:00-7:00 pm Tuesday, May 3, 2022 at the funeral home. In lieu of flowers memorials may be given to either the Monmouth American Legion or VFW and sent to the funeral home.
