Ronald Dale Simmons, 60, of Galesburg, passed away at home Saturday, April 2, 2022 with his children and son in law, Mike by his side.
Ron was born in Galesburg on May 29, 1961 the son of Donald and Judith Ann (King) Simmons. He married Cathy Jones in September 1980 and they had one daughter, Andrea C. Simmons of Galesburg. He then married Nancy J. Hall in September 1985 and they had four daughters, Trisha (Scott) Plunkett of Florissant, MO, Erika (Mike Munz) Wignall of Galesburg, Emily (Jason) Lawson of Alpha, and Morgan (Travis) Lawson of Opheim; and his mother, Judith Ann Simmons of Alpha. He is also survived by his grandchildren, Dakota, Courtney, Caleb and Riley Adams, Scottie Plunkett, Kaden, Brayden, and Brysen Lawson, Brecken Foust, Mitchell and Kaiti Lawson, and Grace Lefler; eight great grandchildren; one brother, Steve Simmons of Alpha; two nephews, and his best friends Ken Gates and Joe Indelicato. Ron was preceded in death by his wife, Nancy Simmons, his father, Donald Simmons, and a cousin, Roger King.
Ron loved being with his family, cooking, and eating out. He enjoyed fishing with his favorite son-in-law, Mike. Ron also loved hunting and going to the shooting range as well as drag racing and being with his puppy, Soapy. Ron’s favorite things to say to his daughters and others he knew included, “It is what it is,” “To each their own,” and “six in one hand, a half a dozen in the other.”
Visitation for Ron will be Saturday, April 9, 2022 at Watson Thomas Funeral Home and Crematory from 3 to 5 p.m. The rosary will be prayed at 5 p.m. Cremation will be accorded following visitation.
