With the weather so up and down this spring, Warren-Henderson Farm Bureau President Jake Armstrong says it has given this planting season a different feeling:
“It is a different feel because in 2019 we had a couple inches of standing water in all the fields, and you couldn’t plant even if you wanted too. This year, I mean you can, but is it going to live, is it going to germinate, how long will is sit in the ground, it’s a different feeling. Then I feel for the guys that still have spring work to do. Whether that is getting spraying done, getting spring tillage, getting ammonia on, or going to urea, trying to get dry fertilizers on, kind of those other hurdles you have to get done before you can plant. Typically, we have that window in March where we have suitable conditions, but we just never had it this year. It has just been a challenging spring.”
Armstrong states the good thing this spring is corn has hit all-time record highs for May, driving the commodity prices even higher.
