Here’s the WMOI/WRAM Athletes of the Week for the week ending April 17, 2022:

The Monmouth-Roseville Titan Athlete of the Week is junior boys track and field athlete, Jerome Jackson. Jerome was phenomenal on his home track in the Titan Invitational. In addition to winning the long jump, he was 2nd in the 200 meter dash. Jerome was also a part of the winning 4×200 meter relay team and on the 2nd place finishing 4×100 relay team.

The United Red Storm Athlete of the Week is sophomore girls track and field athlete, Reece Bertelsen. Reece claimed three first place finishes and one runner-up finish at the recently completed Monmouth-Roseville Titan Invitational. She was the fastest runner in the 100 yard and jumped the furthest in the triple jump event. Reece was also a part of the winning 4×200 meter relay team and her 4×100 relay was 2nd.

The West Central Heat Athlete of the Week is junior baseball player, Landon Winters. Landon came up big when he needed to in a Heat victory over Annawan/Wethersfield. His walk-off double brought home the winning run. That also made him the winning pitcher, as he only gave up four hits, 2 earned runs with eight strikeouts in five innings. In his very next at-bat in the second game of the double header, he hit his first home run of the season.

The Galesburg Silver Streak Athlete of the Week is sophomore girls track and field athlete, Syriah Boyd. Syriah had a fantastic day on her home track in the Silver Streak Invitational. She took 4th in the high jump and 2nd in the 200 meter dash. Syriah was also a part of the winning 4×200 meter relay team, as well. Later in the week, she was 2nd in the 200 meter dash at the Bloomington Invitational.

The Abingdon-Avon Tornado Athlete of the Week is softball player, Maleaha Nagel. Maleaha had a big hand in a pair of wins for A-Town last week. She went 3-for-5 with two doubles and three rbis in a win over Stark County. Maleaha was even better in a win over BPC, going 2-for-3 at the plate, scoring three runs and hitting another double. She also earned the pitching win in that one, as well.
