Needing a victory to win at least a share of the Arrowhead Conference title and a sweep to claim it outright, the Carl Sandburg College baseball team took care of business Wednesday against Kishwaukee at the Hungate Baseball/Softball Complex in Galesburg, beating the Kougars twice, 9-3 and 13-0, for their first conference championship since 2019. Sandburg, now 24-18 overall and an impressive 17-3 in conference play, won the Arrowhead title by a game over Black Hawk. It’s the Chargers’ second conference championship in four seasons under head coach Josh Foreman and the eighth in program history.

In the game one win, freshman starting pitcher Avery Leffler, from United High School, turned in a season-high six innings, allowing only one unearned run. Leffler gave up six hits, fanned four and did not issue a walk in earning the victory to go to 2-0 on the season.

Fresh off his NJCAA Player of the Week award, Mitch Ball was 3 for 3 with a walk, two runs scored, four RBIs and a steal in the game two. outright conference-clinching victory. He also hit a two-run homer, his team-leading 12th dinger of the season.
