David Earl Hodge Sr. “Davey”, 68 of Minneapolis, Minnesota died Tuesday, May 3rd, 2022 at 1:11 a.m. in his Minneapolis home. Davey was born June 1, 1953 in Galesburg, Illinois to George “EJ” Everett Hodge Jr. and Cleaster (Jiles) Hodge. Davey married Regina (Gutierrez) Hodge July 27, 1974.

Davey is survived by five children, Craig “CJ” Hodge (Mary Jo Duckworth) of Galesburg, DeMarco Washington (Spring Nickols), Alisha Hodge (Ronald Wyatt) of Peoria, Illinois, Aretha Savaloja of Centennial, Colorado, and David Hodge Jr. (Rachel Hodge) of Aurora, Colorado.  Eleven grandchildren, Terrell Dickerson, Sedrick Washington, Saige Hillier, Craig Dickerson, Severin Washington, Seth Washington, Sade Washington, Mekhi Hodge, Julian Savaloja, Silas Hodge, and Joslyn Savaloja and four great grandchildren. Davey is also survived by six brothers, Rev. Fred Hodge Sr., John Hodge, Michael Hodge, Robert Hodge, Rev. Steven Hodge, and George Turner; three sisters, Jacquelyn Hodge, Sandra Hodge, and Cassandra Perdue; and a host of nieces, nephews, cousins and friends. Davey was preceded in death by his parents and brother Terry Hodge.

Davey lived the majority of his life in Galesburg, where he was employed at OMC Gale Products and Knox College. Davey was an accomplished outdoorsman enjoying hunting, training his dogs, fishing, and gardening.  Davey was a talented, self-taught musician, playing in several bands throughout the years, including the bass guitar, drums, harmonica, and keyboard. Davey loved The Bulls, The Vikings, and the Blues. Davey loved his family deeply and worked diligently to ensure his children were afforded opportunities for success. Davey’s infectious smile, ability to give anyone a nickname, and sense of humor will be greatly missed.

Visitation will be held from 10 a.m. to 11 a.m. Saturday, May 28, 2022, at Hinchliff-Pearson-West Funeral Directors and Cremation Services, 1070 W. Fremont St., Galesburg, IL 61401.  Memorial service will immediately follow the visitation at 11 a.m. Private gravesite and burial will occur at a later date.
