GFD Respond to Structure Fire at 244 Lake Street

The Galesburg Fire Department responded to a structure fire at 244 Lake Street on Wednesday evening, May 25, 2022, at 7:34 pm. The response included all three stations and the 11 personnel on duty. Upon arrival, units encountered heavy smoke coming from the roof of the vacant two-story structure. Battalion Chief Derek Perry established command and the Brooks St. Station crew had to force entry and used an attack line to attack and put out the fire on the second floor of the home.

An emergency callback was initiated to provide emergency coverage for the city. 1-800-Board-Up was contacted to assist the homeowner in securing the residence. Galesburg Fire Investigators determined the fire to be unintentional with preliminary damage estimates to be approximately $15,000. There were no injuries reported.
