Monmouth-Roseville Softball Picks Up Regional Victory in First-Ever Hosting Role

The Monmouth-Roseville Titan softball program garnered their first-ever postseason win last spring and was looking to do it in back-to-back fashion on Monday in their class 2A quarterfinal match up with Deer Creek-Mackinaw. It was another first for the Titan softball program, as they hosted their first-ever postseason game at Monmouth Park.

The Titans played small-ball to get their first run in the bottom of the first. After an infield single by Adrionna Butler and a pair of wild pitches, Karleigh Ashby brought Butler home with a sacrifice fly to center. The Titans would add to the lead in the bottom of the 3rd when Ashby’s rbi groundout brought home Jordin Mason.

The score remained 2-0 until the bottom of the 6th, when Monmouth-Roseville exploded for three insurance runs. An 2-rbi double by Cristina Dilley was followed up by another rbi double by Ayanna Arteaga-Randolph. The Titans would need those insurance runs after Dee-Mack would score three runs in the top of the 7th on a 3-run homer by Mackenzie Knowles. That’s where the comeback ended as Monmouth-Roseville improves to (7-17) with a 5-3 win.

Ailexa Hunter gets the pitching win, going all seven innings, giving up three run on four hits and getting 11 strikeouts. Randolph led the Titans with two hits. Monmouth-Roseville moves on to Tuesday’s regional semifinal against top-seeded Brimfield/Elmwood in Farmington.
