Schools Will Have to Start Offering Plant-Based Meal Options to Students Under New State Law

Share

Schools will have to provide students with plant-based meal options under a new state law. The law says that vegan and vegetarian meals must be available to kids who submit a request ahead of time. It was supported by Senator Mattie Hunter of Chicago.

“As people’s diets change, we are constantly spending millions and millions of dollars dealing with all kinds of illnesses and people being sick and I believe that by offering a plant-based diet, it allows people to eat healthy.”

This new requirement won’t take effect until the school year beginning in august of 2023.
