The United Red Storm baseball team won their first regional in program history last spring and came into this season with high hopes to hang another regional title banner this spring. The season started a little shaky, going (1-3) in their first four games of the season. Since then, however, the Red Storm have won 14 out of 16 games to get to (15-5) overall. They are (5-1) in the Lincoln Trail Conference’s West Division. That mark ties them at the top with the Knoxville Blue Bullets. The Red Storm and Blue Bullets split a double header on April 22nd. United has a double header next Saturday the 14th vs. West Central left to play. Knoxville’s final West Division double header in Abingdon scheduled for today was postponed to Monday. A-Town is (2-2) in division play and besides the double dip against Knoxville, still has to play two games against Mercer County at home on the 14th.
The United baseball team is standing at a 15-5 overall record after they have rattled off 12 wins in their last 13 games. The Red Storm are tied with Knoxville for first place in the Lincoln Trail Conference West division after defeating Abingdon-Avon in a doubleheader on Friday, winning 15-7 and 16-0. United also picked up a 11-3 road victory over Illini West on Monday. Head coach Ryan Molek believes the team’s preparation has allowed them to be successful this season.
The Red Storm will host Monmouth-Roseville on Saturday morning with that game scheduled to take place at 11:00. United will also have a home match up vs Annawan-Wethersfield on Monday, before traveling to Southeastern on Tuesday, as well as their last regular season home game against BPC on Thursday.
The Red Storm were given the number 1 overall seed in their regional, with their first matchup scheduled to take place on Wednesday, May 18th.
