Despite a crazy weather cycle recently, Warren-Henderson Farm Bureau President Jake Armstrong is very optimistic with the outlook on the crop growing season:
“It’s been a crazy weather cycle, but I will say this, I don’t think I have ever seen as good a corn emergence and as quickly a corn emergence in a very long time. It has been the chatter around the elevator is you forget you get some heat, moistures, and you plant a crop and in about five days it comes up; not that typical three weeks we are waiting in April because it doesn’t get enough heat. That 90-degree weather really spurred things along. We had a little bit of a setback with the hail. The damage is yet to be seen. I have seen some pictures of some pretty shredded fields. I think that narrow band that got hit, will have some replant, but overall I think things are looking really good in the ground, growing well, stands look good. We are getting maybe a shade too much rain right now, but I don’t think it is going to affect us long term, maybe just some wet holes popping up. So far we are off to a pretty decent start.”
