Western Illinois University Intercollegiate Athletics Director Interviews Set

MACOMB, IL – Two candidates for the director of Intercollegiate Athletics at Western Illinois University will be on campus for interviews Wednesday, June 1 and Friday, June 3.

Candidates include Paul Bubb, WIU executive director of development (June 1) and Kent Hegenauer, senior associate director of athletics at the University of Reno-Nevada (June 3). An open meeting will be held with each candidate on their respective interview day in Western Hall’s Hall of Fame Room from 3:20-4:10 p.m.

Bubb has served as the executive director of development at WIU since February 2018. Previously, he was the associate athletic director for development at Cal Poly Pomona (CA) from 2015-2018. Bubb has also served as the director of development at Cal Poly (2015-2016); associate athletic director for external affairs at Murray State University (2008-2014); director of athletics (2005-2008), senior associate athletic director (2004) and assistant athletic director for development (2003) at Idaho State University; interim director of athletics (2002-2003) and senior associate director of athletics (2001-2002) at the University of Maine; assistant director of the Bronco Athletic Association at Boise State University (1999-2001); and director of athletics (1995-1998), associate athletic director (1992-1995) and director of athletic development (1990-1992) at Cal State Northridge. Bubb has also been the director of athletic development at Drake University, director of athletic development at Southern Illinois University Carbondale and director of alumni and parent programs at Monmouth College.

Bubb earned his master’s degree in sport management from WIU and his bachelor’s degree in history at Monmouth College.

Hegenauer has served as the senior associate director of athletics at the University of Reno-Nevada since 2020. Previously, he was the senior associate director of athletics (2012-2020) and associate director of athletics (2008-2012) at the University of Southern Mississippi-Hattiesburg. Hegenauer has also served as the director of ticket operations at University of South Carolina (2005-2008) and Texas Christian University (2003-2005), as well as the assistant ticket manager at East Lansing (MI) University (1999-2003) and the ticket manager and assistant ticket manager at Tulane University. He has also worked as an account representative for Palace Sports and Entertainment in Auburn Hills, MI.

Hegenauer earned his master’s degree in economic development from the University of Southern Mississippi-Hattiesburg and his bachelor’s degree in sport marketing and management from Indiana University-Bloomington.

The director of Intercollegiate Athletics directs and supervises the administration of athletics and all administrative operations and business functions of the program in accordance with the policies and procedures of the institution, NCAA and the Summit League and Missouri Valley Football conferences.
