Here’s the WMOI/WRAM Athletes of the Week for the week ending May 15, 2022:

The Monmouth-Roseville Titan Athlete of the Week is sophomore girls track and field athlete, Carmyn Huston. Carmyn qualified for the Class 2A state finals in Charleston this weekend in two events. Her 2nd place shot put toss and 3rd place discus throw at the Geneseo Sectional meet was enough to send her on to the finals. Earlier this season, she broke the Monmouth-Roseville school record in the shot put.

The United Red Storm Athlete of the Week is girls track and field athletes, junior Alycia Haun and freshman Katie Flynn. Both of these girls will be participating at the class 1A state finals in Charleston. They will each be running a leg on the 4×100 and 4×200 relay teams. They both nearly qualified in a 3rd event, as Flynn’s 100 meter dash time just missed by a quarter of a second and Haun’s 200 meter time was just .2 from qualifying.

The West Central Heat Athlete of the Week is senior baseball player, Carson Long. With the regional tournament coming up, Carson is heating up at just the right time. In three games last week, he went 4-for-8 with three rbis. Among Carson’s four hits was a double and his first home run of the season.

The Galesburg Silver Streak Athlete of the Week is senior baseball player, Kannon Kleine. No bat was hotter for the Streaks last week. All he did was go 8-for-16, with nine rbis in five games. Among those 8 hits was two doubles and 2 home runs, one of which was a grand slam.

The Abingdon-Avon Tornado Athlete of the Week is junior softball player, Grace Chatterton. Grace went 3-for-9 in three games last week for the Lady Tornadoes. She was 2-for-3, with a triple in a loss to Farmington. For the season, Grace is third on the team in batting average and in the top three of several other categories, as well.

Congratulations to all of these student-athletes!! Thanks to our AOTW sponsors……. McDonough Telephone Cooperative (mdtc), Tompkins State Bank, Kehoe Eye Care – Galesburg/Kehoe Eye Care – Monmouth
