Four local high school baseball players were a part of the Quad Cities Metro vs. Quad Cities Area High School All-Star Baseball Game at Douglas Park in Rock Island on Wednesday night. The game featured 34 players from 12 different schools, including three coaches for each squad. All proceeds from the game went towards the continued renovation of historic Douglas Park.

Monmouth-area players on the Quad Cities Area team included Zach Almaguer and CJ Johnson from Monmouth-Roseville and Nolan Leffer and Jon Smith from United High School. United Red Storm head coach Ryan Molek served as one of the coaches on the Area team. The Metro squad was made up of five of the eight Western Big Six Conference schools.

The QC Area Team won game one 9-2. Leffler gets the pitching win with each of the four Monmouth-area players getting at least one hit in the game. The Metro squad gained a split on the night, getting an 8-2 win in game two.

It was the first time that Coach Molek had been on the field since the Red Storm were knocked out of the playoffs with a controversial loss in the sectional semifinals in Jacksonville. Molek said he was happy to get back on the field and coach his Red Storm players one last time.
