George M. Stegens, 65, of Galesburg, formerly of London Mills and Texas, passed away at 4:51 p.m. Wednesday, June 1, 2022, at Allure of Lake Storey in Galesburg.

  He was born September 15, 1956 at Galesburg Cottage Hospital, the son of Harold David and Evelyn Louise (Althiser) Stegens.  He married Mae Myers in 1986 and she preceded him in death.

  George is survived by one sister, Susan (and Mike George) Blake of London Mills; one brother, Veda (and Lora) Stegens of Hanna City; nieces, nephews and their families; four stepchildren, Theresa Reaves, Mitzi Adaway, John Adaway and Mary Burch; ten step-grandkids and eleven step-great-grandkids; and a very, very special friend, his roommate at Allure, Ron.

  He was also preceded in death by his parents, two brothers, David Stegens and Garry Stegens and his brother-in-law, Harry “Joe” Blake.

  He graduated from Elmwood High School.  He was an Army Veteran, serving from December of 1977 to December of 1979.  He worked as an over-the-road truck driver for several companies, including the Swift Trucking Company.  He enjoyed fishing and being on his computer.  He loved spending time with his family and friends.

  Cremation will be accorded.  Private family graveside service with military rites will be held at East Midway Cemetery near London Mills.  A time to celebrate his life with family and friends will be held at a later date.  Hinchliff-Pearson-West Funeral Directors and Cremation Services is assisting the family with arrangements.
