Janice E. Scott, 85, of Kirkwood, IL passed away at 9:20 am, Thursday, December 16, 2021 at Legacy Estates in Monmouth, IL.

Janice was born September 7, 1936 in Stronghurst, IL, the daughter of Orville Willis and Mable Eileen (White) Keener.  She was raised and educated in Kirkwood, graduating from Kirkwood High School in 1954 and later attended Western Illinois University in Macomb, IL.

Janice married John “Melvin” Scott on July 1, 1956 in Kirkwood, IL, at the Kirkwood United Methodist Church and he passed away on May 10, 2009.

Janice was a 2nd grade teacher at the Roseville Elementary School for 2 years.  She later worked at Warren Achievement School as a teacher before working at Achievement Industries as a workshop trainer, retiring in 2003 after over 30 years. She also assisted in the family farm operation in North Henderson, Alexis and Kirkwood areas.

She was a member of the Kirkwood United Methodist Church, Past-President of the United Methodist Women, she served as Secretary of the Kirkwood Senior Center, Kirkwood Community Club and was a charter member of the Kirkwood Classy Red Hatters.

She enjoyed time with her grand and great-grandchildren.  She always looked forward to “Cousins Weekend” in June with a camping trip to Young’s Lake or her backyard.  She also enjoyed playing cards and socializing.

Janice’s family would like to thank the staff at Legacy Estates and OSF Hospice, especially Candi, for their excellent care and compassion during the Janice’s last couple of months.  

Survivors include her sons, Michael (Diana) Scott of Virginia Beach, VA and Steven (Pattie Moore) Scott of Alton, IL; her daughter, Kathy (Paul) Amundson of Hudson, IL; 7 grandchildren, Wendy Scott of Chesapeake, VA., Erin (Andrew) Walton of Chesapeake, VA., Rachel Amundson of Atlanta, GA, John Amundson, of Hudson, IL, Amy (Zach) Larson of Moline, IL, Rebecca (Brock) Adolphson or Rock Island, IL and Sarah Scott of Monmouth, IL; 9 great-grandchildren; her brother, Kenneth (Karen) Keener of Bethalto, IL; sister-in-law, Linda Keener of Kirkwood, IL; several nieces and nephews.

She was preceded in death by her parents, husband; brother, Larry Keener.

Memorial services will be 11:00 am, Thursday, June 23, 2022 at McGuire & Davies Funeral Home and Crematory, Monmouth, IL.  Visitation will be from 10:00-11:00 am, Thursday at the funeral home. Cremation has been accorded. A private family interment will take place at Center Grove Cemetery, Kirkwood, IL.  Memorials may be given to OSF Hospice or the Kirkwood United Methodist Church and sent to the funeral home.  For more information or to leave an online condolence please visit, www.mcguireanddaviesfuneralhome.com.
