Lester E. “Gene” Lair, 89 of Alexis, IL passed away at 7:15 pm, Monday, June 13, 2022 at his home.

Gene was born October 30, 1932 in Alexis, IL, the son of Leland W. and Kathryn B. (Miller) Lair.  He was raised and educated in Little York, IL and attended Little York High School.

Gene served with the United States Army during the Korean War.

Gene married JoAnn Peck on August 13, 1955 in Monmouth, IL and she survives.

Gene was a fuel truck driver for Keisters, Stockyard Feed Store in Alexis and later worked as a farm hand for Hartzell Farms.

He was a member for over 40 years of the Alexis American Legion and the Goldwing Riders.  He also was a volunteer fireman for the Alexis-North Henderson Fire Department. Gene loved riding his motorcycle and mowing his yard.

Survivors include his wife, JoAnn Lair of Alexis; his children, Kathy Cameron of Monmouth, IL, David (Brandy) Lair of Alexis and Randy Lair of Viola, IL; his grandchildren, Shelbie Lair, Taylor Tipsword, Jason Lair, Katie Condreay and Austin Cameron; several great grandchildren; nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by his parents and brother, Robert Lair.

Graveside services with Military Honors will be 11:00 am, Friday, June 17, 2022 at the Alexis Cemetery, Alexis, IL.  Cremation has been accorded. Memorials may be given to the Alexis-North Henderson Ambulance and sent to the funeral home.
