Schools will be able to teach students about proper gun storage under a new state law. The measure was sponsored by Representative Maura Hischauer of Batavia, who explained it to her colleagues on the house floor.
“The aim of this bill is to increase awareness of safe firearm storage by using a trusted source of information, our school. This bill is not a curriculum mandate, it simply allows districts to include safe storage curriculum in their school safety curriculum.”
Supporters says this will help prevent gun accidents at home. Schools can already teach kids about hunting safety. The new law takes effect in January.
