North 6th Street on the List to be Reconstructed in City of Monmouth

North 6th Street between Broadway and Euclid in the City of Monmouth is another stretch of roadway on tap for reconstruction. While there is a new water main on the east side of the road, the houses to the west are not connected, which would be the first step in this project says City Administrator Lew Steinbrecher:

“There is a new water main that is located on the east side of that roadway, but the homes that are on the west side of the road have not yet been connected to that new water main. Part of the project in reconstructing 6th Street is to also install new water line laterals from the water main into the properties that line the west side of the road. Then the old brick foundation underneath is very unstable. The roadway will need to be reconstructed. Putting pavement over that brick, it would not last long. So we will need to go down, remove the brick, install a new road base, and then reconstruct the road itself.”

City streets being considered in the 30 blocks on tap for reconstruction this summer are situated all across town, which were identified for repair as not needing any underground infrastructure improvements, including South Sunnylane and 4th Avenue.
