Phyllis Rosemary Norris, 85, of Galesburg, Illinois died at 4:55 p.m. on Saturday, June 11, 2022 at Seminary Manor in Galesburg.

She was born on June 25, 1936 in Galesburg, the daughter of James and Roberta M. (Hopkins) Nemeth. Phyllis was reared and educated in the Knox County area. After graduating high school, she worked at First National Bank for many years. Phyllis then started her own tax preparation business. She was self-employed for around forty years, until her retirement.

On June 28, 1958, Phyllis married the love of her life, Richard E. Norris at the St. Paul Catholic Church in Burlington, Iowa. Together they celebrated 61 years of marriage. Richard preceded Phyllis in death on July 28, 2019.

Left to cherish Phyllis’ memory is her son, Greg (Laura) Norris of Galesburg; one brother, Terry (Mary Jo) Nemeth of Galesburg; and several nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her parents; husband; one brother, Phillip “Bud” Nemeth; and one sister, Joyce Hendricks.

Phyllis was an avid bingo player and loved going to river boat casinos with Richard before he passed. She also enjoyed working in her yard and growing flowers, traveling, going for bicycle rides, and doing sudoku puzzles. More than anything else, Phyllis loved her family and enjoyed spending time with them. She was a very sweet and devoted wife, mother, sister, aunt, and friend. Phyllis was very proud of her family, and was a huge supporter of her son’s business, Norris Sound and Lighting. She was of the Catholic faith.

Visitation will be held on Saturday, June 18, 2022 from 9:00 a.m. to 10:00 a.m. at Watson Thomas Funeral Home and Crematory in Galesburg. The funeral service will follow at 10:00 a.m. at the funeral home. Deacon Michael Crummer will officiate. Burial will be immediately following the funeral service at East Linwood Cemetery.  The family has requested that casual attire be worn for services. Memorial contributions may be made to the Relay for Life of Knox County or to St. Patrick Catholic Church. Online expressions of sympathy may be sent to the family at www.watsonthomas.com.
