Roofing Industry Sees Changes in Today’s Trends

The roofing industry has seen changes recently in the types of products being installed for customers. Quint Cities Restoration Production Manager Patrick Barnhill shares today’s trends:

“There is a big push for the metal roof now. The longevity of it is really starting to show. A lot of companies are starting to push it. You are getting 30 to 40 years out of a metal roof and not overly that hard to install either, so you are seeing a lot of companies start to go that path. The rubber roofs, we call them low slope roofs. If you look around all your commercial buildings that have the flat style, that is just a good 20-to-35-year roof that you put on there and there is a lot of different opportunities that you can do with that, different choices with TPO. Then shingles, you are starting to see a bunch of crazy shingles come out on the market. You have metal shingles now that are popping up all over the place, tile; your choices are very vast in the roofing industry when it comes to what you are going to put on your actual building.”

And as solar panels are becoming more popular, Barnhill says that has also created changes for the roofing industry:

“We have looked into it, but that is a whole separate beast. Installing the solar, I think if you can utilize that on a roof, especially with energy prices the way they are heading right now, I think it is an amazing idea to possible have on your house. There are carbon credits for it and then you get federal credits on top of that.”

As for color trends, Barnhill says the greys, urban iron, reds, white, greens, and lighter blues are the most popular with customers.
