Approximately once per year, the City of Galesburg offers various city owned properties for sale. The purpose of selling the city’s surplus property is to eliminate the need for city property maintenance and to place the properties back on the property tax roll. The City of Galesburg currently has 22 vacant lots available for sale, with written sealed bids being accepted until 5:00 p.m. on Monday, July 18, 2022.
The City is not conducting an auction for these properties. Parties interested in purchasing the property must submit written sealed bids to City Hall Purchasing by 5:00 p.m. on Monday, July 18, 2022. The bids will be opened at the City Council meeting that evening. The list of properties available for sale is included in the request for bid documents, as well as published as a legal notice in the Register-Mail on June 10, 17, and 24, 2022.
There is a required minimum bid of $100 for all properties. Bids may be submitted as a “development bid plan”, which specifies the intended future use of the property, or a “no development plan bid”, which does not indicate future property plans. Preference may be given to development plan bids. Yard expansions for adjoining properties is an example of a development plan bid.
The request for bid document, which lists the property locations and provides bidding instructions, can be found on the City of Galesburg website, or picked up at the Community Development, or Finance Department at Galesburg City Hall, 55 W. Tompkins Street.
