Colchester Man Arrested for Possession of Methamphetamine

On July 1, 2022, at 7:13 p.m. a McDonough County Sheriff’s Deputy observed a blue Chevy Equinox travelling near Bushnell and Monroe Street in Tennessee, IL.  The registered owner of the vehicle, Steven D. Haskins, 57, of Colchester, IL was wanted in Hancock County on 22-CF-31 for possession of Methamphetamine.

The night patrol deputy conducted a traffic stop and Haskins, a passenger in the vehicle, fled on foot.  During the foot chase Haskins threw a clear baggie that was suspected to contain narcotics.  After a brief foot pursuit Haskins was caught and resisted the deputy.  The TASER was deployed, and Haskins was taken into custody by the McDonough County Sheriff’s Office.

Haskins was found to be in possession of approximately 5 grams of Methamphetamine and Methamphetamine Paraphernalia.  Haskins was treated at the scene by Colchester Fire Department and lodged in the McDonough County Jail.

The driver of the vehicle, Danny E. Gossage, 64, of Littleton, IL was released from the traffic stop pending charges.

Haskins was charged with Possession of Methamphetamine under 5 grams, Possession of Drug Paraphernalia, and Resisting a Peace Officer.

Haskins was also lodged on the Hancock County Warrant which was $150,000.00 with ten percent to apply.

All Subjects are innocent until proven guilty in a court of law. The McDonough County Sheriff would like to thank Jeffrey Connor of Tennessee, IL for assisting the McDonough County Deputy apprehend Haskins.  Jeffrey Connor risked his own safety to help a deputy in need.
