David R. Armstrong, aged 73, of Chicago, Illinois passed away on Sunday, July 10, 2022 surrounded by his family.

David, the son of Max and Dorothy (Eisiminger) Armstrong, was born on May 2, 1949 in Monmouth, Illinois. David was raised in Cameron, Illinois and grew up alongside six brothers and sisters. David graduated from Warren High School in 1967, Purdue University with a degree in Agricultural Economics in 1971 and later he earned a graduate degree in Agricultural Economics from Michigan State University.

He married Mary Ann Smallwood on February 5, 1972 in Monmouth and they celebrated their 50th wedding anniversary earlier this year.

Early in their marriage David and Mary Ann lived in Cameron, Illinois where they farmed on the Armstrong Farms and had their first child, Spencer. In the late 70s they relocated to Lansing, Michigan while David attended Michigan State University.  While in Lansing, Davie and Mary Ann enjoyed watching Spartan sporting events and welcomed their daughter Elissa.

David worked as a commodities analyst with a variety of companies in Illinois and Michigan. He enjoyed Sailing, biking, and reading. David enjoyed time with his family, especially his three grandchildren Derek, Zoe, and Reed. Favorite memories together included visits in Florida and trips to Michigan.

Survivors include his wife, Mary Ann Armstrong of Chicago, IL; his 2 children, Spencer (Melissa) Armstrong of Gainesville, Florida, Elissa (Gary) Johnsen of Park Ridge, Illinois; his 3 grandchildren, Derek Johnsen, Zoe Armstrong, and Reed Johnsen; his 5 siblings,

 Anne (Ben) McIntosh of Monmouth, Judy (Steve) Mahoney of Berwick, Steve (Melinda) Armstrong of Monmouth, Elizabeth (Dirk) Armstrong Iglehart of Brookline, Massachusetts, and Kent (Jennifer) Armstrong of Monmouth; numerous nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by his parents and sister Jackie Woods.

Memorial services will be 11:00 am, Friday, July 22, 2022 at McGuire & Davies Funeral Home and Crematory, Monmouth.  Visitation will be from 10:00-11:00 am Friday morning at the funeral home.
