Expectations High Once Again for Monmouth-Roseville Volleyball

High School volleyball season is just around the corner. The season gets underway with the first official practices starting on August 8th with the earliest day that a match can be played being August 22nd. The Monmouth-Roseville Titan volleyball squad ended their 2021 season with a record of (23-8-2). Excluding the covid-shortened season of 2020, last season was the fourth straight year that the Titans have won at least 20 matches, dating back to 2017. The last three 20-win seasons were under the direction of head coach Laura Swiler.

According to the IHSA website, 16 more victories would give Swiler 100 career head coaching victories in her four and a “half” years with Monmouth-Roseville. She currently holds a career winning percentage of 69%. However, deep runs in the playoffs have eluded the Titan volleyball squad. Their last regional title came under Robin Bell in 2009. That Monmouth-Roseville team was knocked out of the postseason by IVC in the sectional championship match. The bad news for the Titans was that they were beaten by Illini West in the regional semifinals last season but the good news is that they only sported three seniors and seven juniors that will return this season. As always, expectations are high for the Titans this fall and Swiler is excited about her returning players.

The Titans open their season on Monday, August 22nd at home against the Ridgewood Spartans in a non-conference match up. Following a Wethersfield Invitational Tournament on Saturday, August 27th, Monmouth-Roseville will begin their second season in the Three Rivers Conference with a road match at Riverdale on August 30th.
