Former M-R Varsity Boys’ Basketball Coach Chuck Grant Continues to Hit the Court

Retired Monmouth Roseville Varsity Basketball Coach Chuck Grant continues to pursue the game of round ball on the court in an over 50 league in Chicago….

“You start thinking about a bunch of old guys playing, real competitive. It’s fun. The team I was on this year, I think I knew one guy before I started playing. it is great because we have this six-foot five guy to rebound, I was talking to him one night and getting to know him, I said how old are you, he said 74 man, and said get out of here, you would have never guessed it, absolutely never guessed it.”

Grant was the only varsity coach for the Titan’s boys’ program since the Monmouth and Roseville school districts consolidated in the fall of 2005. During those 16 years, Grant won just short of 300 games, captured seven regional titles and two sectional crowns.  In looking for a new coach, Monmouth-Roseville didn’t look too far. Former Monmouth High School basketball two-time all stater, Jake Sottos, has been tabbed with keeping the Titan boys’ basketball program relevant around the state. Sottos has served as Grant’s junior varsity coach since 2016, where he has put together several winning seasons.
