The Henderson County Museum, in Raritan, Illinois, will be open on Monday, July 4th from 11 am to 2 pm.
The museum grounds consist of three buildings: the old Raritan school building and gymnasium, an agricultural building and the Graham one-room schoolhouse.
Tours are self-guided at your own pace and admittance is free of charge. The museum focuses not only on the history of the county but also the history of the United States. Touring the museum is a perfect way to enjoy Independence Day.
The museum is maintained by the Henderson County Historical Society. Also on July 4th, from 11 am to 1 pm, the Historical Society will be serving their annual fundraising chicken and pork chop barbeque meal at the St. Pat’s Community Center just a few short miles from Raritan. The meal is a free-will offering and all proceeds support the maintenance of the museum.
