IL Corn Growers Association President Marty Marr Calls ITC’s Tariff Ruling a Victory

Earlier this week the International Trade Commission (ITC) ruled against imposing tariffs on nitrogen fertilizers imported from Russia, Trinidad, and Tobago. Illinois Corn Growers Association President Marty Marr calls the ruling a victory for farmers:

“I think it is a real victory for farmers and for the domestic fertilizer industry of course. We are just glad that those tariffs weren’t imposed. A lot of that can be counterproductive and it is just going to increase the causes in the cost for fertilizers in particular for farmers and it was not going to work going into the end of this year with a lot of uncertainty with our input costs going forward into 2023 growing time period. We have to prepare also for what prices are yet to come on fertilizer this fall when we make plans for the coming year. There is still a lot of uncertainty on where that is going to land price wise, and we just hope that this helps stabilize that market.”

The International Trade Commission’s ruling takes effect immediately.
