Two Vehicle Fatal Traffic Crash

WHERE:

US Highway 34 westbound at 6th Street, Warren County

WHEN:

July 11, 2022 at approximately 3:12 p.m.

VEHICLES:

Unit 1 – 2015 Orange Jeep Wrangler

Unit 2 – 2013 Brown Honda CRV

DRIVERS:

Unit 1 – Shawn P. Runge, 55-year-old male from Morris, IL – Transported to an area hospital with non-life-threatening injuries.

Unit 2 – Joy R. Stephens, 80-year-old female from Monmouth, IL – Flown to an area hospital with life-threatening injuries.

PASSENGERS:

Unit 2 – Jack K. Stephens, 91-year-old male from Monmouth, IL – Deceased

PRELIMINARY:

A preliminary investigation indicates the following occurred: Unit 1 was traveling westbound at the above location. For unknown reasons, Unit 1 failed to stop at the stop light and struck the passenger side of Unit 2 as Unit 2 was making a left hand turn onto 6th Street. The passenger of Unit 2 was pronounced deceased on scene by the Warren County Coroner. The driver of Unit 2 was flown to an area hospital with life-threatening injuries. The driver of Unit 1 was transported to an area hospital with non-life-threatening injuries. The driver of Unit 1 was issued a citation for Disobeying a Traffic Control Device.

All subjects are presumed innocent until proven guilty in a court of law.
