West Central Heat Softball Trying to Build on Strong 2022 Season

Share

The West Central Heat softball team made their deepest postseason run in program history this past spring. The Lady Heat made it all the way to the Class 1A Supersectional before being knocked out by Forreston in a heartbreaking 6-5 loss, in a game in which the Heat led the Cardinals 5-3 going into the bottom of the 7th. West Central ended the year with a record of (28-7), giving head coach Scott Swiler his 115th victory in his coaching career. Swiler’s girls also won the Lincon Trail Conference title with an amazing record of (17-1).

Some of that success can be attributed to a strong junior high program at West Central. The Heat junior high softball team took 3rd in last fall’s IESA State Tournament, going (16-5) on the season. As far as the summer schedule for the Heat softball program, Swiler says, for the most part, with the grind of the already long spring high school schedule, he lets the girls decide how much they want to play.

The West Central junior high softball schedule gets underway in early August, with the first game scheduled for August 4th at home against the Annawan/Wethersfield co-op. All home games for the Heat are played in Stronghurst.
