William E. “Bill” Spencer, Sr., 88, of Williamsfield. He was the son of William A. and Oletha A. (Squires) Spencer. Bill married the love of his life, Janet L. Miars on January 31, 1953 in Kohoka, Missouri. Together, they celebrated a life of 64 years before she preceded him in death on November 14, 2017. Surviving Bill are his children, Debbie (Bill) Machin of Williamsfield, Kirt Spencer of Galesburg, Becky Miller of Williamsfield and Bill Spencer, Jr. of Woodhull; siblings, Jim Spencer of Peoria, Judith Rhoades of Novelty, Missouri and Stanley Spencer of Newark, Missouri; eight grandchildren, ten great-grandchildren and three great-great-grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his parents; wife, Janet; grandson, Ed Spencer and sister, Pat Carlson.

Bill graduated from Williamsfield High School. He went on to work for Admirals (which would later become Maytag), retiring after 40 years of service. He was a crane operator and would retire as a mule driver. Bill enjoyed camping, fishing, woodworking, watching Jeopardy and Lester Holt. He was happy when socializing with the patrons at the American Legion, taking rides looking for wildlife with his wife, or most importantly spending time with his family. He was honest and a kind man who worked long hard hours to provide for his family.

The family would like to extend a special thank you to OSF Home Health nurses Stephanie and Amanda and OSF Hospice, all of whom showed great care and compassion for Bill and family during this difficult time.

Cremation rites have been accorded and no services are planned at this time. Hurd-Hendricks Funeral Homes and Crematory, Knoxville have been entrusted with arrangements. Expressions of sympathy may be left to the family at www.hurd-hendricksfuneralhome.com
