Saturday starts the 2022 Monmouth All-City Golf Championship. The first day will take place at the Monmouth Country Club for the first 18 holes, with the tournament ending on Sunday for the final 18 at Gibson Woods Golf Course.

Matt Briggs is the defending champion. Briggs defeated last year’s defending champion, Jake Sottos, in a one-hole playoff to claim the victory. Matt is the son of Mike Briggs and current Gibson Woods pro, Randy Briggs. Mike and Randy were both IHSA state champions during their time at Monmouth High School. Besides Sottos, other former champs expected to be in the field include 3-time all city champ Scott McClintock, 2-time champs Scott Weber and Tristan Reimolds. Those four golfers combined have won the past 7 of the past 8 all-city titles. Two-time champ Jim Sloan captured the 2007 and 2012 tournaments. Sloan recently passed away in early July at the age of 63.

On the women’s side, back in 2019, Cathy Kerr stopped a 6-year winning streak by Justine Brentise, then Justine Peel. Since then, Kerr has ran off three straight victories and will be looking for a 4th straight title this weekend.
