Carroll E. Munson, 90, of Bushnell, IL, formerly of London Mills, IL, passed away at 9:37 p.m. Sunday, August 21, 2022 at Courtyard Estates of Bushnell.

Carroll was born February 24, 1932, in rural Fiatt, IL, the son of John Ernest and Leah Mae (Buchen) Munson. He graduated from Spoon River Valley High School in 1950.

After high school he joined the United States Army where he served in the Korean War. He married Alzinna Foote in Canton, IL, in 1955 and she preceded him in death in 2003. Carroll was a skilled mechanic. He was employed at the strip mine, starting at Edwards in 1967 and retiring from the Rapatee mine in 1994.

Carroll was a member of the London Mills Methodist Church. He was an avid antique car collector and enjoyed going to car shows. His ’67 Pontiac was his favorite to show and the only one he bought new. He loved motorcycles and rode for over 60 years. He also loved racing go-karts with his children, grandchildren and great-grandchildren and did so into his 80’s. Spending time with his family was his greatest joy.

Surviving Carroll are his children, Dale (Rhonda) Munson of Fairview, Beth (Ernie) Etter of Dixon, Jennifer Cole of Galesburg, and Heather (Ray) Moore of London Mills; 6 grandchildren, Justin (Elicia) Munson, Brent Munson, Carissa Cokel, Caitlin (Kalan)Hiller, Kayla Moore, Daria (Jake) Beekman; 8 great-grandchildren, Samantha, Tyler & Connor Munson, Braden Munson, Declin Cokel, Elliott & Silas Hiller and Leo Coufal; and his Special Friend Jeannine Melvin of Bushnell. 

He was preceded in death by his parents; wife; one infant daughter Diane; half-siblings, Burdette Munson, Wynette Rowden, Ruth Munson and one grandson-in-law, Calvin Cokel. 

Graveside services will be held at 11:30 a.m. Saturday, August 27, 2022 in Wiley Cemetery, Fulton County, IL. Friends may call prior to the service from 10:00-11:00 a.m. at the London Mills United Methodist Church, London Mills, IL. Memorials may be made to the London Mills United Methodist Church or St. Jude’s Children’s Hospital, and left in the care of the funeral home. Wise Family Funeral Home, Avon, is handling the arrangements.
