Eugene Henry Likes, 81, of Oneida, died peacefully at home surrounded by his loving family, Wednesday, August 10, 2022.

Gene was born April 21, 1941 in Dahinda, Illinois, the son of Herbert Henry and Virgie (Adams) Likes.  He graduated from Galva High School in 1959.  Gene married M. Elaine Wessels Foglesong on December 20, 1976 in Galva, Illinois.

Gene is survived by his wife of 45 years, Elaine of Oneida; six sons, Shane (Patricia) Likes of Harligen, Texas, Rick Likes of Sanford, North Carolina, Eugene (the late Patricia) Likes of Killeen, Texas, Daron (Sherry) Likes of Delta, Colorado, Robert (Joy) Foglesong of Lafayette, IN, and Todd (Dawn) Foglesong of Oneida, Illinois; six daughters, Theresa (Kevin) Abbadusky of New Boston, Illinois, Julie (Kenny) Nelson of Oneida, Illinois, Kim (Dara) Foglesong of Jacksonville, Illinois, Tonya Schaff of Delta, Colorado, Sharon Likes of Delta, Colorado, and Paula (Rob) DeJaynes of Oneida, Illinois; one brother, Stanley (Louise) Likes of Florida; and one sister, Darlene McCoy of Indiana.  Gene is also survived by his pride and joy, 25 grandchildren, 49 great grandchildren, and one great great granddaughter.  Gene was preceded in death by his parents; two sisters; and three brothers.

Gene loved to work.  He worked at the Galva Foundry for 33 years, then worked at Butler Mfg. in Galesburg for 9 years before spending 4 years as a production supervisor at Cornick Concrete in Pekin, Illinois.  He then worked as a supervisor at AZZ Galvanizing in Peoria, Illinois, and spent the past 11 years working for Securitas Security as a security guard at OSF St. Mary Medical Center in Galesburg and caring for the stray cats at the hospital.  In his free time he enjoyed fishing, golfing, being with his dogs and his family that he cherished and loved.

Visitation will be 1 to 4 p.m. Sunday, August 14, 2022 at Watson Thomas Funeral Home and Crematory, Galesburg.  The rosary will be prayed at 4 p.m. led by Deacon Rod Gray.  Funeral Mass will be 10 a.m. Monday, August 15, 2022 at Immaculate Heart of Mary Catholic Church, Galesburg.  Father Deus-Dedit Byabato will officiate.  Burial will follow mass at St. Joseph Cemetery, Galesburg.  Memorials may be directed to the family.  Online expressions of sympathy may be sent to the family at www.watsonthomas.com.

Woman Sets Porch on Fire

A Burlington woman is facing criminal charges for lighting a fire on the porch of house she believed was her friend’s. The incident occurred just after 4:30pm on March 19,
