Janice Kay Montgomery, 79, of Galesburg, died at 8:05 a.m. Sunday, August 7, 2022 at Seminary Manor, Galesburg.

Janice was born January 22, 1943 in Canton, Illinois, the daughter of Laurel Calvin and Viva (Hedrick) Morey.  She graduated from Peoria Manual High School and attended Illinois Central College.  Jan worked for the Peoria Chamber of Commerce for several years, then working for many years in the medical field in hospice and later in her career as a credentialling specialist for Dr. El-Deiry while living various locations in the greater Tucson, Arizona area. 

Janice was happily married to Phillip Montgomery for the last 36 years of her life.  Phil survives in Galesburg.  Jan is also survived by four sons, Joseph W. (Brenda) Sparks of Woodstock, Illinois, Wesley A. Sparks of New York, New York, Ronald Douglas (Laura) Humke of Peoria, Illinois, and David (Jennie) Humke of Chicago, Illinois; one daughter, JoAnna Schopen of Peoria, Illinois; eight grandchildren; four great grandchildren; and one sister, Patricia Barth of Peoria, Illinois.  Jan was preceded in death by her parents.

Janice volunteered her entire life, from being a teacher’s aide when her children were in grade school, to being a hospice volunteer.  She was an avid bowler, bowling in many different leagues throughout the years.  She also enjoyed spending quiet time reading a good book.  For over 30 years, Janice and Phil lived in Arizona, spending most weekends outdoors camping, hiking, and shooting.  Her favorite place to visit was always Sedona, Arizona.

Cremation will be accorded.  No services are planned.  Arrangements have been entrusted to Watson Thomas Funeral Home and Crematory, Galesburg.  Memorials may be made in Janice’s memory to OSF Hospice, 3405 N.
