Juana Artiaga, 96, of Monmouth, IL, passed away at 10:40 am, Sunday, July 31, 2022 at her home.
Juana was born March 29, 1926 in El Jaral, Jalisco, Mexico, the daughter of Juan Ibarra and Victoriana (Briones) Ibarra. She was raised and educated in Mexico.
Juana married Salvador C. Artiaga in Mexico in 1942 and he passed away February 1, 2005.
Juana worked at the Monmouth Pottery, the Glastex Boat Factory, FormFit and Monmouth Nursing Home. But her primary job was taking care of and raising her family. She was a fantastic Mexican cook and loved to cook for her family and the neighborhood. She enjoyed crocheting and gardening. Her true joy was being with and around her children, grandchildren and great grandchildren.
She was a member of the Immaculate Conception Church.
Survivors include her 5 children, Trinidad Arteaga, Julia Cokel, Mary (Tom) Scudder, Alicia Ward all of Monmouth, Marta Arteaga of Orlando, FL and “Special Daughter” Adrienne Simpson of Monmouth. IL; 11 grandchildren, several great grandchildren and 2 great-great grandchildren; her sister, Maria R. Leal of El Paso, TX; several nieces and nephews.
She was preceded in death by her parents, husband, 2 sons, Francisco Artiaga and Angel Artiaga; and 2 sisters, Anselma Martinez and Lupe Alvarado.
Mass of the Christian Burial will be 10:00 am, Friday, August 5, 2022 at Immaculate Conception Catholic Church, Monmouth, IL. Interment will be at St. Mary’s Cemetery, Monmouth. Visitation will be Thursday, August 4, 2022 from 5:00-7:00 pm with a Rosary Service beginning at 4:30 pm at McGuire & Davies Funeral Home and Crematory, Monmouth, IL.
