Michael Vincent Mooney, 65, of Galesburg, passed away on Tuesday, August 2, 2022 at his home.

He was born August 18, 1956 in Galesburg, the son of Vincent Patrick and Patricia Ann (Ritchey) Mooney. After graduating from Galesburg High School in 1974, he attended Carl Sandburg College where he received his associate’s degree. In 1977, Mike opened a local business named M&M Mobil (Auto Care). He owned and operated his business until 2007. Mike was an ASE certified technician and continued his training throughout his career. At the end of his career, he was the service manager for City Select Motors in Galesburg. He married Jane Patricia Kisler on June 3, 1978 at Corpus Christi Catholic Church in Galesburg.

Mike is survived by his loving wife of 44 years, Jane Mooney of Galesburg; a son, Sean (Marta) Mooney of Des Moines, Iowa; a daughter, Megan (Andy) Rowe of Galesburg; and three cherished grandchildren: “Best Buddy” Alex Patrick Rowe, Rosemary Patricia Mooney, and Oliver Michael Rowe. Also surviving is a brother, Chuck (Sue) Mooney of East Moline, Illinois; a sister, Susan (Matt) Faber of Azle, Texas; and several nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents.

Mike was a devout Catholic. He was a member of Corpus Christi Catholic Church and then St. Patrick’s Catholic Church. He shared his musical gifts at both churches with his guitar and voice. He also enjoyed singing with the Galesburg Community Chorus. He loved being a part of community theatre. His most memorable roles were Chief Bromden in ‘One Flew Over the Cuckoo’s Nest’ and Nana in ‘Peter Pan’.  A favorite memory was joining his children in performing in ‘Fiddler on the Roof’. Mike was also a member of J.O. Hunt Knights of Columbus Council 556.

Mike was truly a loving, kind man who thought the world of his family and friends and gave many hours to his church family with his music.
