Nina Lewis a resident of Farmington Country Manor at 701 South Main Street, Farmington, Illinois 61531, passed away at 7:50 p.m. on August 22, 2022 peacefully and of natural causes. 

Nina is survived by her son, Niels Christopher Lewis (Linda) of Galesburg, Illinois; her daughter, Tina Lewis (Martin Bonnen) of Copenhagen, Denmark; her two grandchildren Henrietta Lewis Bonnen, and Peter Lewis Bonnen of Copenhagen, Denmark.  Nina was predeceased by her parents:  Willie and Aase Gartner and her sister, Me Plasby.

Nina was born on February 13, 1940 in Copenhagen, Denmark.  She attended the Zhahle school in Copenhagen.  After two years of nursing school, Nina married, Henry John Lewis of Jersey CI, UK in 1962.  They divorced in 1977 and she never remarried.

Nina lived in many places including Denmark, England, The Bahamas, New Jersey, Kansas, and Illinois.  She loved travel and boasted crossing the Atlantic 137 times.

Nina focused on raising her children in the multiple locations mentioned above.  She had several careers including an HR manager for Bergner’s and a placement specialist for Snelling & Snelling until she found the career that best suited her with Johnson and Johnson as a personal assistant.  She worked at J&J until 2002 when she retired.

Nina was quite the grammarian and she loved reading the New York Times in search of grammatical errors.  She also loved classical and jazz music especially if it was live, entertaining, and travel.  She was particularly fond of two African safaris that she along with her two children were able to do in the 70’s.  Nina was especially fond of her English Springer Spaniel, Oliver who passed away in 2009. 

Nina was a member of the Universalist Unitarian Church of Champaign, Illinois.  She supported various charities but really favored supporting the Food Bank.   Memorials may be made to FISH Food Pantry https://fishofgalesburg.org

A memorial service will be held at Hinchliff-Pearson-West Funeral Directors and Cremation Services, 1070 W Fremont St., Galesburg, IL 61401on Saturday August 27, 2022 at 3 p.m.  Pastor Jordan Knight will officiate.  Online condolences may be made on the funeral home’s website at www.h-p-w.com.
