West Central High School Has a New Man in Charge of Boys Basketball

Share

After previous head coach Mike Kelley stepped down at the end of the last high school basketball season, West Central High School went looking for a new leader of the boys basketball program. They found one in Dustin Brooks. Brooks, a 2002 graduate of Abingdon High School, spent last season as the top assistant for Knoxville Blue Bullet head coach Erik Hughs. With Hughs, the Blue Bullets posted an overall record of (27-6), which broke the all-time single-season school record of 26. Knoxville basketball records date back to 1909. After graduating from Abingdon, Brooks spent time on coaching staffs in Missouri for 11 years before coming back to Illinois to coach at Peoria Quest in 2018. Coach Brooks says his plans for the Heat boys program include laying the foundation for a new culture, a culture of winning and being competitive, night-in and night-out.
