Here’s our first WMOI/WRAM Athletes of the Week for the 2022-2023 school year for the week ending August 28th, 2022:

The Monmouth-Roseville Titan Athlete of the Week is senior football player, Jerome Jackson. Jerome got his season off to a great, helping the Titans to a 22-16 win over Kewanee. He scored all three Monmouth-Roseville touchdowns in the game, including an electric 65 yard touchdown run in the 3rd quarter that clinched the victory.

The United Red Storm Athlete of the Week is junior volleyball player, Callie Mason. Callie was named to the highly competitive Macomb Lady Bomber All-Tournament First Team. She absolutely filled up the stat sheet in the five matches her team played. Callie smashed 33 kills, served five aces and hustled her way to 17 digs.

The West Central Heat Athlete of the Week is senior football player Kaiden Droste. Kaiden is one of the most electric players in the area and that fact was no more evident in the Heat’s 60-32 win over BPC in the season’s opening game. He rushed for 230 yards and scored four touchdowns. All of Kaiden’s touchdown runs came in the first two quarters of play.

The Galesburg Silver Streak Athlete of the Week is senior volleyball player, Avery Wolfe. Avery’s play on the court at the Quincy Early Bird Invitational earned her recognition on the All-Tournament First Team. In five matches during the day, she hustled her way to 27 digs and served for an accuracy of 89%. Avery is second on the team in digs for the season, serving at a rate of 98%.

The Abingdon-Avon Tornado Athlete of the Week is freshman boys cross country runner, Taylor Hess. After an outstanding junior high track and cross country career, Taylor continued that succes in his first varsity cross country meet in the Farmington Invitational. He crossed the finish line in a 3-mile time of 21:06, which was good enough for 21st place out of 48 total runners.
